Deep in the heart of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Kenilworth Building pumps a high-tech classroom that Scott Emmons describes using terms like 3-D printing, prototypes and industrial design. He sounds much like an engineering professor.
Even the name of the place — the Digital Craft Research Lab — evokes images of engineering innovation and entrepreneurial potential.
However, Emmons is no engineering instructor. He’s the dean of UWM’s Peck School of the Arts, and he’s not just leading the school’s further extension into technology-related business realms like the product design activities one sees at the DCRL. He’s also the key figure in the Peck School’s push for a presence in downtown Milwaukee, which could lead to heightened awareness of what some local leaders see as a hidden gem of the city...
