On October 3, Music faculty and Peck School alum Kevin Schlei's multi-touch synthesizer app, TC-11, was the #1 iPad app in the Music category on the App Store (US), and #46 overall in all categories (US). Other countries' individual App Store sales saw even higher rankings, such as #4 overall in the UK!
TC-11 is the multi-touch synthesizer by Kevin Schlei for the iPad. Released in 2011, it has received critical acclaim in multiple countries for its forward-thinking approach to musical interface design.
TC-11 is an ongoing project using research in multi-touch interfaces. Two published papers on the technology by Schlei, Relationship-Based Instrument Mapping of Multi-Point Data Streams Using a Trackpad Interface and TC-11: A Programmable Multi-Touch Synthesizer for the iPad, can be found in the NIME Conference Proceedings (2010 and 2012).
Schlei is currently adapting the technology for control of other instruments, including standard MIDI controlled hardware, iOS synthesizers, and OSC (Open Sound Control) capable software.
More information about Kevin Schlei's work can be found at his company's web site.
