"Love is a Horse with a Broken Leg Trying to Stand while 45,000 People Watch," written by Fly Steffens and directed by Emily Rindt, will premiere on the patio of The Red Dot on Milwaukee's East Side in September 2013.
About the Play:
Drawing from influences and experiences ranging from Charles Bukowski to James Joyce and life-as-a-twenty-something to Theatre of the Absurd, Love is a Horse [...] debuts in its first full production after several local staged-readings and development workshops at Peck School of the Arts (2011) and Chicago Dramatists Play LAB (2012). The third act of the play, Love. Repeat., was published in Great Lakes Review Literary Journal in Spring 2013.
Working as an independent theatre ensemble, the cast and artistic team of Love is a Horse [...] have previously collaborated on several shows in the Milwaukee Theatre Community, including punkplay for The World's Stage Theatre Company (2012) and Meet Me at the Avant Garde for Peck School of the Arts Theatre and Guitar Departments (2013). Members of the ensemble have also contributed to or have been featured in shows with The Alchemist Theatre, Pink Banana Theatre Co., Riotous Shakespeare Troupe, Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, Peck School of the Arts, and Theatre Unchained (formerly Carte Blanche Studios), among others.
A play in three parts: Goldfish, And the Sun Wields Mercy, and Love. Repeat.
Love is a Horse [...] explores the cyclical, repetitive, and tragic nature of relationships and addiction.
A man, haunted by the death of his childhood pet, is on the verge of eviction. A business-school dropout wagers everything to get the woman of his dreams. A lovesick photographer turns her subjects into stone. All are plagued by the inability to change. All are offered an opportunity to do so.
