Not all dance MFA students at UWM are young post-baccalaureates aspiring to dance professionally. Julie Tice-Bubolz is among the many accomplished, veteran dancers attracted to UWM's graduate program for its flexibility to allow them to continue to dance professionally while preparing academically for the next stage of their careers.
Julie is an eleven-year veteran of the Paul Taylor Dance Company—one of the original touring companies of American modern dance, based in New York City. She still spends most of the year in New York, where she teaches dance and Pilates.
Julie grew up in Petersburg, Illinois and danced with the Springfield Ballet Company. She earned a BDA with honors from the University of Michigan in 1997, where she was honored with an Emerging Artist award a decade later. As a member of the Paul Taylor Dance Company, she performed in all fifty states, as well as fifteen countries, and also appeared on PBS and BBC television specials. She continues to choreograph and teach master classes and workshops at universities and festivals throughout the United States.
