Experiencing great art can be a little like being dropped into someone else's skin.
To know what it is to be old, to know one's self and to understand what it means to be the very best at something - this is what I imagine could be imparted by the Rembrandt self-portrait that arrives here next week, one of the last portraits by one of the greatest artists who's ever lived.
In a different way, the self-portraiture of an artist couple taken on their rural farm promises a more uncomfortable confrontation with mortality, as do the works of an emerging artist that conflate the ruins of war and a lost history that's quite personal.
