UW-Milwaukee’s Peck School of the Arts is marking its 50th anniversary. Rather than buy itself a big cake, it’s inviting the university and the entire city to a yearlong celebration. UWM’s Year of the Arts, spanning the fall 2012 and spring 2013 semesters, includes events involving Peck alumni and Milwaukee arts groups that have been touched by UWM. And after 50 years, that means pretty much every arts group.
“The Year of the Arts is a celebration of the contributions to Milwaukee by our alumni,” explains Ellen Friebert Schupper, the Peck School’s director of marketing and community relations. “It’s a deliberate effort to connect with all the schools on the UWM campus and the entire community. We have scheduled 100 Year of the Arts events on top of the Peck School’s 350 regularly scheduled events.
