Local performing arts groups and presenters will offer plenty to think about this season, with shows that reflect on the impending presidential election, financial crises and segregated neighborhoods.
But if you'd prefer to park your anxieties for a while, there's a bounty of quality entertainment on the calendar, too.
Here is a suggested list of 30 noteworthy professional theater, music and dance performances spread throughout the 2012-'13 season. They're not the only shows worth catching, of course, but each has something distinctive to offer. In making these picks, I've looked in particular for promising new works and exciting collaborations between groups.
